My aim is to produce a live action short film within the horror/action genre but with a twist. Being inspired by old silent movies such as The cabinet of Dr calagari. I am extremely interested in horror and suspense films and hoping to create a short moving image piece with a twist. Everybody loves a good twist ending and no genre tries harder to throw viewers for a loop than horror and suspense movies. My aim to reveal an unexpected end to my piece. Beginning as a horror and creating suspense throughout and then ending with a comical twist ending. The main aspect of my piece will be the chase. I will be focusing on building up suspense between the two characters. Experimenting with various camera angles and techniques and a score that works in time with the sequence. Cinematography is a key aspect in my piece, especially when experimenting with the horror genre. It is essential to create the desired atmosphere. This can be done by using colour filters experimenting with different lighting techniques. The use of lighting to create dramatic shadows. The narrative structure of my movie is fairly easy to follow. I have chosen not to use any dialogue in my movie. I want to add a sense of mystery to my movie and the story will be told by the acting of my characters facial expressions, body language, sound effects and the score. I will be using no diagetic sound such as my soundtrack which i will create in garageband. I will also use many sound effects such as screams and footsteps which i will record myself. There will be no dialogue in my movie as i would like the score and acting to tell the story. Music that has inspired me is the psycho soundtrack as it is very fast pace with stabbing like sounds. This music is great for building up tension and then releasing it. The music at the end of my movie will be a fast upbeat tune to work well with the comical aspect. Hoping to end my film with a twist. The silent 1920s film The cabinet of Dr calagari is seen as having introduced the twist ending into cinema, being a german expressionist film it closely examines staging cinematography and acting. The aim of my piece is to get the desired audience reaction. Hopefully beginning with with a slow building scene which will quicken in pace with the use of rapid editing, this is to create suspense and fear but in such a way that the piecing together will go unnoticed and the action will appear continuous. After creating a suspenseful and tense atmosphere the movie will come to a climax in which the unexpected twist will be revealed.
